To make custom labels for the storage bins in my craft room, I turned a regular cut file from the Silhouette Studio Online Store into a Print & Cut File. Take a look at my neatly organized and labeled storage bins:
My craft was a mess. One, big, crafty mess. And it was time to do something about it. I have big plans for this room, but first things first. Clean up and organize all the “stuff” that was flung around during the busy Christmas crafting season was the first thing to do.
I found a great deal for these little plastic bins that fit perfectly into the cubbies of my craft desk, but I still found myself spending way too much time looking through the bins for whatever craft supply I needed. I knew I needed labels so that’s what I did. I made labels.
I needed big, easy-to-read labels. And they needed to look pretty (of course!) Not just any old label would do. So I made my own customized labels using a cut file from the Silhouette Online Store and adjusted it to fit my needs.
Here’s how I did it using the Lori Whitlock 2 label shape (Design ID 18635).
I even {gulp!} made a video (my first, so please be gentle!) So if you’re like me and are a visual learner, here ya go!
One IMPORTANT thing I forgot to mention in the video: after you type the word for the label, TURN OFF CUT LINES OF THE WORD

Open the file in Silhouette Studio and Ungroup (right click – ungroup)
Select the shape on the right and create an offset
You’ll notice that the shapes are bigger than the page, but we’ll take care of that in the next step:
After all of the labels are…well, labeled, it’s time to print it and cut it!

Jeanie — so glad i followed this link in the Silhouette Challenge January projects. You did a great job and are enticing me to break out my foil I bought during the December sale.
Looks like you ran into the same problem I had with my printer not printing the tail-end of my design/registration mark. I have to set my lower margin/mark all the way up to .875 (7/8ths) to get it all captured by my HP printer. Ticks me off that I have to waste that last little bit…but if that’s my biggest gripe today, it’s a good day!

Thank you for this tutorial! I purchased a Silhouette Cameo last fall and haven’t had a lot of play time with it. Mainly because I don’t know how to do much other than cut out vinyl. I have so much to learn, and this was a great lesson. I loved the video, I hope you do more.
