Dan and I both love the beach! I also love camping. Dan likes camping. So this is the second year that we have combined both. There is a really nice, sandy campground in Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware that is located just over the dunes from the Atlantic Ocean. We went there for the first time last October and we enjoyed it so much that we booked it again for this year.
What I love most about this campground is it’s proximity to the beach (just a one mile bike ride), the bike and walking trails, and the sandy, white pine-filled campsites. It’s also just a quick bicycle ride down to the boardwalk at Rehobeth Beach, Delaware.
There are a lot of nice tent sites, but we especially like tent site 9. It’s a large site right next to one of the WWII towers. We climbed up the tower this year and the following image shows our site from the top of the tower. See the orange tent? That’s us!
I just love the crazy, twisty trunks, the pine needles, and sand of this campsite. It makes for a nice, soft surface for us tent campers!
A view of the beach and a lighthouse from the tower is shown above. We are so close to the ocean from our campsite that we can hear the waves crashing at night.
We have three tents, but brought this North Face tent since it’s the largest and most comfortable. There’s plenty of room inside to standup and there’s even room for our queen size inflatable mattress.
And I don’t go car camping without my tall, green shower tent! It can be used as a changing room if your tent isn’t tall enough to stand in. I use it as my bathroom with and use this camping potty.
I also can hook up this portable shower that works with this collapsible bucket. We didn’t use the shower this time. The water just didn’t warm up enough! One of these days I like to get one of those fancy camping showers with a water heater!
We spent three nights this year and would have stayed longer but this place books up fast. If you want to reserve a site, get online one year ahead to claim your favorite site. We couldn’t get it for same week next year. We didn’t get online fast enough! Lesson learned.
If you also like camping, what is your favorite campground?
