I am proud and honored to be a part of a group of women bloggers who are all over the age of 50. We came together in a Facebook group a few months ago. I love these women! We have so much in common and we started bonding right away. The blogging world is full of bloggers in their 20s, 30’s and 40’s but not quite so many in their 50s and beyond. But we feel that our age gives us a unique voice.
Why? Well we baby boomers been around longer so that gives us lots of experience! And we’ve seen it all! Well maybe not “all” but certainly a lot! We believe that we women who are over Fifty and Fabulous have important things to say. We were raised during a time that is so different from today! There was no internet, no HGTV. OMG, how did we learn to do anything???
We learned from the generation before us. From our parents. My dad was a high school shop teacher. That man could DIY ANYTHING. He had to. Teacher salaries back then were a lot less than they are today. And my mom was a middle school home ec teacher. That woman could SEW ANYTHING. Growing up I didn’t own any store-bought clothes – ever.
So I’m saying that we had to be resourceful. Figure things out on our own. Without the help of the internet. Imagine a world of no Pinterest {gasp!!!} or even worse: no blogs!!!! ; )
Speaking of blogs, here I am with two of my best Fabulous Fifties friends: Gail from My Repurposed Life, me, and Debbie from Refresh Restyle.
Today you get to hear our voices together. We are each linking our blog posts and projects together in each other’s blogs. Please click on the links at the bottom of this post and visit all of these Fifty and Fabulous women.
As you probably already know, trying to stay fit after fifty is not easy! We have to work twice as hard to lose half as much weight as we did in our 20s. Amiright??? I am trying to stay fit! That means I go to the gym anywhere between 0 and 4 times a week depending on what I have going on with the blog. If I’m busy with a big DIY project, I count that as part of my cardio!
Which is explains my project for today’s blog hop party.
I made the design for this shirt in Silhouette® Studio and cut the glitter heat transfer vinyl with my Silhouette Cameo.
The font I used is called Braveblood. I don’t remember where I got that font. It was probably part of a bundle that I purchased.
I cut the design from white glitter heat transfer vinyl (HTV) and I love how it pops against the black fabric of the tank.
Click here to get all of the how-to’s to design, cut, and iron on your own tee shirt design using a Silhouette®.
I hear from so many readers that they have a Silhouette® machine but have never learned how to use it. I want to help!
I feel so strongly about this that I even created a FREE mini 5-part e-Course. It’s called Learn How to Use Your Silhouette in 5 Easy Steps. And when I say easy – I mean really, really easy. Maybe even too easy! But I want you to learn! To sign up for this free e-Course, click here. You’ll receive one email a day for the next five days. Each day I will walk you through one easy step. By the fifth day, you will make your first cut and be on your way to cutting like a pro!
Thanks for stopping by today! If you’re new here, you’ll find lots of DIY projects and crafts. I like to say that Create & Babble is about making pretty things and making things pretty. I love inspiring and teaching other women that they too can do it themselves!

You are rocking your fifties!! I was so impressed with your long bike ride this summer. Most young people wouldn’t even think of taking that on!
I need that shirt and I’ve pinned it to make “one of these days.” (Unless you want to make one for me and I’ll pay you for it. Not kidding!)
Jeanie says
Thank you Paula – how sweet of you to say! And I am getting requests for this as a tee shirt, so yes, I will make one for you! Let me know what color (black or white) and size!
Leilani says
Cute!!! Clever you! Over-50 bloggers are my favorite bloggers. 🙂

Hi Jeannie,
Your tank tutorial is sooo cute. I don’t have a Silhouette but you make me want one. Oh, and I so agree about being resourceful. Most kids have no idea what a card catalog is. A research paper is a piece of cake in the modern world. I say we can do anything we want.

Thank you Maria! I agree – it is heart warming!

Hi Jeannie, I LOVE that t-shirt! Dang, wish I had a silhouette machine. Do you or have you thought about selling them on Etsy? You are rock’n the 50’s!
Jeanie says
Thank you Marie! I actually am thinking about making these (although as tees – not tanks) to sell. I’m getting quite a few requests – I just don’t want to bother with the whole Etsy thing. I think I’ll just sell through my Create & Babble and Friends FB page. If you do want one, let me know what color and size. I think I’ll offer just two colors to start. White or black.

I love that picture of us from Haven–it was so much fun!!!!
Your tank top is awesome. I often wonder how I can gain weight when I stay so busy with DIY. 🙂
Great post Jeanie!

Cute shirt! I’ve never tried making iron on transfers with my Silhouette. I’ll have to make a point to do that. It’s sad to say that I use it mainly to cut my booth price tags. Sometimes, there’s just no time for the fun crafting.

I love your shirt Jeanie & you look fabulous I might add! I loved how you mentioned that we all grew up without the Internet, and social media…what would our kids do in that world? Do you think they could have entertained themselves? Sheesh! Let’s add we are 50 Fab and Fit to the slogan!

I got married before Pinterest — and I remember searching the internet for hours looking for ideas. And at least I had the internet! 🙂 Cute top, tweeted!

Hi Jeanie! So fun putting a face & a topic with a blog! Getting to know the real person, ya know! I love your shirt…very eye-catching! I’m not sure what a “Silhouette” is…thought it was some type of saw at first, but it doesn’t look like a saw! Ha! Must be something to do with making a tee shirt, right??? Ah yes, I’m brilliant. Fun post to read. I agree with all your points about us baby boomers who didn’t grow up with HGTV…only 3 channels back in those days. Yes I’m not sure the millennials have anything on us at all.
RHoda @ Southern Hospitality says
Hi, Jeanie, thank you for stopping by & the kind words! So happy to be in the 50’s group with you & those other wonderful ladies. And so appreciate your support of Haven. You are rocking along doing your thing and that’s what it’s all about! You look so cute in the t-shirt, keep on DIYing!

Would cooking classify as cardio? LOL. I recently got my self in trouble by buying a Cameo and spent hours watching YouTube videos. What was I thinking? I don’t even have free time, but here I go, not 50 & Fab but 50 & Stubborn, ha!
I’m signing up for your class. Thank you! P.S. you look fabulous in that tank. Wish I could pull it off. 🙂

I love the tank top! DIY is my cardio too. It is so hard to go to the gym when I really want to go home and make stuff. I do try to get there at least three times a week.
Deb Baker says
I just discovered your blog a couple of days after turning 51. Love this post. Life just keeps getting better and I relate so much to your fabulous DIY is my Cardio that I’m tempted to make one. Just like you, I grew up with a handyman teacher Dad who worked at our local TAFE college and a home economics high school teacher mum. I learned so much from them both and know I wouldn’t be the person I am now without them. My mum also made all of my clothes and I LOVED them. So glad I’ve found your blog and I will now be a regular reader.
Amy @ StowandTellU says
How appropos DIY is my cardio too. Mostly because I wait til the last minute to pull all the items together that I need for that particular project. Three trips down to the basement and two trips to the garage later. Yeah, it’s a work out, lol. Love your tank top!!! This is such a cute saying. Pinned and sharing. And If I ever do get my hands on a Silhouette machine. I’ll be hopping on over to take that class.

This is so great that you guys really found your tribe. And I was lucky enough to be invited in to have dinner with you guys at Haven. You were all so inviting.
Love the shirt I may need to make one for myself. I still haven’t tried HTV yet even though I have a bunch in my basement.
Mary-the boondocks blog says
Jeannie, I wish DIY was my cardio. I also do a lot of DIY. In fact, that is what my blog is mostly about. But since getting serious about this blogging business, I have found that I spend way too much time in front of the computer screen and not with my beloved DIY projects. Time to get moving a bit, and then maybe I’ll also be able to wear a t-shirt like that. We are all fabulous at fifty!
