Like it or not, Fall is here. And we all know what that means. All of you Fall lovers are enjoying the cooler temperatures, changing foliage colors, and anything pumpkin. It’s no secret that I am a summer lover. I hate to see it end. BUT, I have learned to look on the bright side. Places that I like to visit are so much less crowded. It’s time to go camping and hiking at Hickory Run State Park.
So far this month, I have taken a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip. More on that in another post.
Dan and I took our annual fall beach camping vacation in Delaware. More on that in another post, too.
I also joined some new friends (that I met in a Facebook group) for a Fall Foliage Camping and Hiking adventure in Hickory Run State Park. This state park is located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. I have never been there before and was excited to visit someplace new. Let me just say, I can’t wait to go back!
The photo above shows my campsite. It was beautiful! I was surrounded by tall, white pine trees. The temperatures were colder than I had hoped they’d be for this time of year so I quickly decided to turn the back of my SUV into a makeshift camper of sorts. I put all of my gear on the left side, and stacked sleeping pads, blankets, and pillows on the right side.
Quite cozy and I had everything within reach.
The view of the full moon and star-filled sky was a bonus with the big moon roof in my Kia Sorento.
Hickory Run State Park has 44 miles of trails ranging from easy to most difficult. On the second day our group hiked the Shades of Death Trail. That trail has every type of terrain. Some ups and downs, some flat areas, mostly rocky and full of roots to be navigated but the scenery was breath-taking. I want to go back in the Spring when the flowers are blooming.
