I love front porches. But I my current house doesn’t have one. Just a little stoop. But there’s a few things I can do to make it fun and festive for Christmas.

First of all, I treat the entire front of my little townhome as if it is a porch. I always – every year always – put up three wreaths that I get from Costco. One on each kitchen window and one on the front door.

The second thing I do that will never change: I put out the salvaged wood Christmas Tree that I made last year. This year I placed it on top of an old wooden crate that I bought at an antique shop. Last year I just leaned it against the siding. But having it on top of the wooden crate looks so much better!

My tips for decorating small front stoops:

  1. Pick one thing with a flat profile. That’s why this salvaged wood tree works so well. It’s not little. But it is flat and doesn’t take up a lot of room. Which is a good thing for small front stoops!
  2. Decorate the door and windows
  3. Treat the entire front area of the house as a porch if possible

Next year I think I’ll bring up the old artificial tree and put it out front in the flower bed. I won’t put ornaments on it. Just plug the lights in and maybe add weatherproof bows.

That salvage wood tree is awesome! I love the way you treated the area under the windows as the porch.
