This was going to be a post about Christmas sweater pillows. I was going to buy a bunch of used red and green pillows from the thrift store and make Christmas pillows. But while I was at the thrift store, I had another idea for those sweaters. Come back on Sunday and see what I did with those sweaters. In the meantime, I want to show you how to make old sweaters into new pillows. This is a so crazy easy to do – I promise!
You can whip up a pile of pillows in no time.
For these pillows, I used MY old sweaters. I dropped a few sizes and these sweaters are not only too big, but they’re pretty old, too. Not even worthy of a thrift store!
Here is what else you’ll need (affiliate links):
- thread
- sewing machine
- scissors
- needle
- pillow forms
How to Make Old Sweaters into New Pillows
First, button up your sweater (if it has buttons) and lay it down flat. Next, position the pillow form on top of sweater to make sure pillow form is the correct size for your sweater. I used 16″ square pillows.
Cut out a 16″ square from your buttoned up sweater. (Don’t toss the arms – I have a use for them ; )
Because the sweater stretches, you can cut it to the same size of the pillow. Pin three of the four sides together.
Sew the three edges.
Pin the fourth side together and hand sew it closed.
I love how they look on my bed. I needed new throw pillows and these really brighten things up!
My bed was a big, plain sea of white that needed some color. For the small cost of pillow forms, I got a big look. And when I get tired of them, I’ll just toss those old sweaters.

Sweaters and pantyhose can get pulled out of shape when they twist around in the washer. To protect these garments during washing, toss them into a pillowcase and close with string or rubber band.

Sometimes, it can feel like the only thing left to do with your old clothes is toss them in the trash. I prefer to visit rv extended warranty companies that learn more new things about cards. This is kind of sad when you think about how once upon a time something was considered fashionable and then it becomes a relic in no time. One way to bring new life into something that used to be stylish and cute is to recycle them into something new.
