This is one of my favorite Power Tool Challenges. It’s the Secret Santa Christmas Exchange. This means that today’s project is being mailed off to another participant in today’s challenge. So what did I make? I made an oversized wooden magnetic Christmas ornament. This large wooden ornament is too big for the tree but it is perfect to put on the fridge.

This magnet measures approximately 9″ x 10″.

To make it, first I printed out an outline of a Christmas ornament.

Using a repositionable adhesive, I attached the outline of the shape onto a leftover piece of 1/4″ plywood.

I then used my RYOBI Scroll Saw to cut out the shapes of the ornament.

Next, I painted the main piece of the ornament in red Americana Decor Chalky paint.

Then the top part of the ornament is covered with a thick coat of silver German glitter glass. I used mod podge as the medium to hold the glitter.

The design on the front of the ornament is a file from a digital bundle that I bought from Design Bundles. I cut the design out of glitter heat transfer vinyl (iron-on) with my Cricut Explore Air 2 and then used an iron to adhere the design onto the wood! Yes, an iron. Who knew!!!

I’ve been wanting to try ironing HTV onto wood and this was my chance! I have to say it was a success. I love how it looks. Sometimes regular vinyl on wooden signs just looks like stickers. I have read that ironing HTV onto wood has better results and I have to agree!

Lastly, I drilled a small hole into the top for the “hook” (which is just a piece of wire) and used my RYOBI Hot Glue Gun to attached two magnets to the back.

This is so cute! Someone is going to love hanging this on their refrigerator this holiday season.

The truck sign that you made for me last year is on my porch and yesterday my neighbor came over and just oohed and ahhhed over it. I wanted you to know that I’m still enjoying it!

Ohh Jeanie! You did such a great job on your ornament. Iron on wood? I had no idea. It does look better than regular vinyl.

    Pinned!
