One of my favorite games as a child and even now is Yahtzee. I can remember the first time I played. It was at a cousin’s house many, many years ago.

How to make yahtzee lawn dice

With this tutorial, you can make make a set (or three!) of lawn dice to play Yahtzee outside. I first posted this tutorial on Ryobi Nation last fall. It was so popular that I thought my readers would like to see it too!

To make lawn dice, you will need an 8′ piece of 4 x 4 lumber. I got mine from Home Depot.

cut a 8' 4 x 4 into 3-1/2" cubes

Since a 4 x 4″ is actually 3-1/2″, cut the 8 foot length down into 3-1/2″ sections. You will get four sets of dice from the eight foot length. Once all of the blocks have been cut, it’s time to sand them smooth. I used 220 grit sandpaper. This helps “seal” the grain end of each block.

By the way, I was able to use my Ryobi 12″ sliding miter saw to cut the wood.

Next, round the new edges of each block by passing the new sharp edges across the routing table that is set up with a 1/4″ round over bit. If you don’t have a router, you can sand these edges to remove the sharpness.

I used this wood burning tool to mark the “holes” on the dice. A clear sealer can be applied after all the holes have been marked.

The painted dice are my favorite and were so easy to make! I made a stencil and used a stencil brush to “stipple” on the white dots. (I made the stencil with a stencil blank and my Silhouette®, but you could also make one out of heavy card stock and use a small lid to trace the circles. Cut out the circles and you have a stencil!)

Of course I had to make a set with my favorite team’s colors!

It is so much fun to play this popular dice game outside! It’s small enough to take along on picnics and camping. What color will you make your lawn dice? Let me know in the comment section below – I love hearing from you!

I like this idea, but i was wondering if you have other ideas for making games for kids using wooden blocks. I’m using 1 1/2 inch blocks. I can use 1-2 as dice pieces, but what else could make a game, with an additional 2 or 4 blocks. It is for a Vacation Bible School craft. I could use peel stickers, or felt marker to make the other pieces………… I just can’t think of a game. 🙁

What’s your Vacation Bible School theme? Use sticker’s themed based. Make the room a game board themed base use the dice to advance players.

Oh, dice is my favorite game! Currently, I prefer to play online games and am mainly attracted to cryptocurrency games for effective earnings. I think you will find it useful to learn more about Litecoin dice and the role of this cryptocurrency for the future of decentralized finance. In fact, the Litecoin cryptocurrency has always remained at a good level, so such games can bring good income.

This tutorial is fantastic! I’ve always wanted to make a set of lawn dice, and your step-by-step guide makes it seem so doable. The tip about using a wood-burning tool to mark the holes is especially helpful, and I love the idea of customizing the dice with team colors.

Speaking of outdoor activities, I recently came across some issues with lawn care services. If anyone else is facing similar problems, this page on lawn services complaints has some useful insights on how to avoid them.

Thanks again for sharing this tutorial—I can’t wait to try it out!
