I am tickled pink to be participating in the January DIY Furniture Girls blog hop where a group of us bloggers come together once a month and update a piece of furniture according to a pre-determined theme. This month’s theme is “Shades of White”. My project is updating a my new-to-me nightstand with some stenciled drawer fronts.

DIY Furniture Girls

Just the other day I wrote about a small chest of drawers that I found for $18. I gave it a few coats of paint and now it’s my new nightstand.

Pretty painted chest of drawers

The color is called French Vanilla and I love it!

But I thought it could use a little something to break up all of that French Vanilla. But just a little something.

Stenciled Drawer Fronts

How about some stenciled drawer fronts? What do you think?

Rose stenciled drawer fronts on painted chest of drawers

I made a “roses” stencil, then stenciled the drawer fronts using white acrylic craft paint. I love how it looks with the rose drawer knob!

Roses stencil made with Silhouette Cameo®

I looked for a stencil in the craft stores but was unable to find exactly what I was looking for. So I made my own. I have a Silhouette Cameo® and I’ve made many stencils (here, here, and here) in the past so I knew making a roses stencil wouldn’t be a problem.

Rose stenciled nightstand

I think it’s just the right of amount of “something” that this nightstand needed!

The stenciled front is the perfect touch for this piece. It looks great beside your bed. I like the storage that it offers as well. My nightstand is often littered with things and if I had drawers, I could hide some of it.

Adding the pretty rose stencil was spot on – it’s perfect with those glass rose knobs! Impressed the heck out of me that you made your own stencil too.

Your stencil adds the perfect finish to the nightstand. It turned out beautifully. That’s smart to create your own stencil. So many times I have looked for a stencil and given up because there was nothing remade that I liked.

    Jeanie,
You added just the right amount of softness and bling to your $18 nightstand. I love the Silhouette Cameo too. Have you made many stencils? How did you like the process?
    Gorgeous!
    Happy Creating,

The stencil and knobs are perfect together! Whenever I have time to open my Cameo and attempt to make a stencil, you might be hearing from me…. 🙂

    Jeanie,

The stenciling looks fabulous! I make stencils using contact paper, but never like this. You used a stencil blank?

    beautiful job!

I think this is a great idea to dramatically change the way a piece of furniture looks. Thank you for sharing this stencil idea with us. Pinning it because I have some furniture at home to stencil.
